The Tree of Life

Second Stylization piece for January. One more to go! The Sunday of the 17th I was asked to draw the Tree of Life and Lehi's vision found in 1 Nephi for the class. It was just a quick sketch but I kept staring at it with my mind whirling as to what I could do for a real piece. I came across an art piece in the Stylization folder on Pinterest (which is private I might add) and came up with this. It came out looking a bit more like a stain glass window, but I don't mind one bit. And it was quick and easy.

This also suits my goal of doing more religious art pieces.

I did this back in high school and never got around to finishing. It's not meant to be political. I just figured it should get finished... Even if it's only taken me around 7 years...

This is not a drawing and I don't claim any of the... things used here. It was just a fun thing I did as a teenager that I finished up today.

I'm not really counting this for my monthly 3 stylization pieces because it's suuuper old.

Self Portrait 2016

Here is my self portrait for 2016 that also happens to be part of the stylization project to build up a more varied portfolio. I realized while working on this that the pictures used for reference (while taken in 2016) are from before I got my hair trimmed. But it'll grow back to that soon enough. I don't love the patterns on the hair but the point was for them to be imperfect and almost silly. It also looks like I did major contouring on my face.

Originally there were butterflies and dragonflies in the background but they got screwed up in Sai so I scrapped it. The patterns you see in the hair are inspired by Scandinavian vintage patterns from the 50s to the 70s. I've determined no one does design better than Scandinavians.

But hey! Here's my self portrait. I tried to take my time. And look! It's a bit of a digital painting. I'm getting better. :)

The Art of 2015

2015 was my least productive year creatively. And I'm not just talking about art. I didn't finish a single writing project this year but started maybe three or four? It was actually a really rough year in general and I'm hoping that I can move past this and do better in 2016. But, to follow tradition, here is my year in review.

So here are my favorite pieces, which isn't much since there wasn't much done. Go figure.
